“Restlessley do they  wander  here and there , have their early morning  ritual bath , dutifully wear the sacred ash and  appear  holy and religious to impress others around  but engage  in the mundane  activity of gathering more and more wealth  unsatiated. Little do they  realise  that a man  wants but little here below  and wants  it not  for long ‘. Alas , why do they lack the spirutival awakening gained  through unqualified , full time devotion to Rama?”

Gajendra was an elephant king who  got caught in the jaws of a crocodile demon  whne he was deep inside a river  for a bath . Not all his physical might could get him out  of the jaws  of the reptile .Out of sheer despair as a last resort , he sought  lord vishnu’s  intervention  for deliverance . sudharshana chakra  cut through  the crocodile’s  jaws and gajendra was released forthwith.

Pray  can they ever  fathom  the principle  underlying  Rama’s incarnation ?”

meaning by guru padma varadan garu:

“They are a burden on  earth who miss out on the  bliss of devotion  for you despite being fortuitously placed in life both  by birth and environment . O embodiment of sound ! one beyond  the scope of the greatest truth expounded in  sacred literature! adherence to rituals  prescribed  by the scriptures often  merely yields  more and  more misery. Going strictly by the discipline -specific  injunctions  necessarily  leads to  an endless cycle of  rebirth. Steadfast , undiluted devotion  alone  is a sure means  of release from  this cycle and of gaining  ultimate salvation .”

The terms  tyagaraja  natha in  his piece  and sita  natha in  the kambhoji piece, sri Raghuvaraprameya  are rare  references in the composer’s  repertoire.
